Elegy Halloween Game

Posted on November 19, 2024 by DragonMaster

It took awhile to get this done, but here is the writeup of the Halloween session of Elegy that I played.

Truths

These are the Truths I picked for this game. I wanted to try for something that emulated the setting of Vampire: the Masquerade.

History: Vampires inhabit Santa Maria since its earliest development, which happened somewhere between the 16th and 19th century.

Origins: It is widely accepted that vampirism is a punishment for humanity’s original sin.

Genealogy: Depending on their progenitor, each vampire belongs to one of five different lineages.

The Internet: Vampires have their own network, the umbernet.

Rebels: The Agorean Movement is an independent Faction that questions the Queen’s authority and governs part of Santa Maria

Deviance: A large group of vampires called the Egregoros rejects the three basic vampire laws and opposes anyone standing by them.

Werewolves: Tribes of werewolves habit the wild. They call themselves Varou.

Elegies: the precious promises vampires make one another are documents written on paper and marked with a drop of blood.

Characters

Eric: the main PC. A waiter in his past life, Eric is part of the Kerberos lineage. Currently staying in the Old Town district with Nadia.

Nadia: Eric’s progenitor. She’s the leader of a small “pack” of her progeny.

Hector: A mortal who was friends with Eric. Caring and compassionate, he works as a veterinarian.

John Croy: Mortal, owner of a knife shop at the pier.

For the inciting incident, a box of secret Elegies has been stolen from Nadia during the day. She’s secretive about the details, but she tells me she needs her Elegies back soon, in order to protect her progeny, including me. As a test of loyalty, she uses the influence of my blood link to her to persuade me into singing an Elegy to retrieve the box for her. (I want this to be a short adventure, but not too easy, so I give this Elegy a rank of “Dangerous”.)

Nadia and I sneak into the Cielo Library to look for clues. (Gather Information 7, rolled 3 and 6 for a Strong Hit. Clue leads to a strange or unfamiliar place – Santa Maria Piers, John Croy)

(Marking one progress for finding the missing Elegies)

Nadia stays back in Old Town as I leave for the piers. I find Croy’s knife shop, half-hidden in scattered patched of darkness left by shattered streetlights. I sneak into the shop (6, rolled 2 and 8 for a Weak Hit), managing to get inside, but unaware that I tripped a silent alarm.

As I start looking around the shop, Croy comes in through a back door and turns on the light, surprising me with a shotgun in his hand. (Enter the Fray 7, rolled 3 and 7 for a Weak Hit. +1 focus) I rush in to close the distance (Secure Advantage 7, rolled 3 and 8 for a Weak Hit. +2 focus) and claw at his leg (Clash 7, rolled 4 and 6 for a Strong Hit, dealing 7 Harm), causing him to fall and drop his gun. I go to knock him out with a kick to the head (7, rolled 3 and 7 for a Weak Hit), but he pulls a hidden knife, stabbing me in the leg just before my boot connects with his forehead. (Take 2 Harm.) Ouch. Well… fuck.

I’m hurt, he’s unconscious, and morning is only getting closer. I decide to tie him up and take him with me back to Old Town, so I can find rest before sunrise. (I could make a roll here, but I want to just wrap this up at this point, so I just handle this as narrative. Marking one Progress for finding Nadia’s elegies.)

I had a fun time playing this. I’d like to go back to this game sometime to interrogate Croy. I don’t see any way this ends well for him. I’m going to need to spend blood to heal my stab wound, but I also have to spend blood just to wake up at the beginning of the night. I’m probably going to need to feed very soon. Hm…
